Podiatrists In Thornbury & Portishead

Looking at the biomechanics of the feet and lower limbs

When you first come to see one of our podiatrists (podiatric physician) in Thornbury or Portishead, they will take a complete history of the presenting problem and include a full assessment. This assessment will include a range of factors such as orthopaedic tests (dynamic as well as static) and depending on your daily activities, including any sporting activities, particular functional tests will be carried out as well.

A podiatrist treats disorders of the ankle, foot and lower extremity and treats general foot pathology. Some podiatrists do not carry out surgical treatment, but you’ll be pleased to know that Optimus are able to provide this service.

Most people are unaware that podiatrists will also carry out assessments on the hip area (part of the overall structure of the leg) as well as taking note of any lower back pain that might be present. If such problems exist, we can refer you to one of our physiotherapists or chiropractors who are extremely effective in treating these particular problems.

Once the assessment has been carried out, we will be able to determine a programme of treatment. Here at Optimus we use a wide range of interventions to help treat a wide array of problems. For example we employ orthotics to correct any biomechanical imbalances. We use the latest CAD software to customise any required insoles specifically to each individual patient. As well as this we also use electrotherapy, ultrasound, soft tissue work and acupuncture.

As well as any work that is carried out in the clinic, we also like to empower our patients to take control of their problems through a series of prescribed exercises which include strengthening and conditioning, stretches and other techniques to mobilise areas. These exercises will vary according to your activities and any sports you may be involved in.

Many of our patients have also been successfully treated for a range of superficial complaints, which include corns, verrucas and in-grown toenails. Conditions such as verrucas and in-grown toenails may require minor surgery which will be carried out by our in-house podiatrists. These minor surgeries will be carried out under local anaesthetic and are performed by some of the best podiatrists in Thornbury and Portishead.

If you have any problems with the forefoot, mid-foot, rear-foot, ankles, the achilles, the shins, and even the knees, then the best person to see is one of our podiatrists.

If you are uncertain if one of our podiatrists can help the problem you are currently suffering from, please feel free to either call us or email us and we will be more than happy to advise you on the best course of action.
